Previously Finished FloorsTop finishing previously finished floors.Floors are normally sanded to a bare wood surface before finishing. If the floor is only a little worn, however, it can be freshened up considerably by applying a new layer of finish on top of the old one. Preparation and CleaningFirst, you must check that Bona lacquer adheres to the old finish. Sand a small floor area, a corner, for example, and finish it. Allow it to dry overnight and then scrape the surface with a coin. If the finish remains, then it is okay to finish over the old surface. Otherwise the floor must be sanded down to bare wood. Clean with Bona Cleaner and mop the floor with clean water. SandingNow it's time to sand the floor. Place the white sanding floor pad on top of the sanding screen. Place the polishing machine on top. Start the machine and sand the floor until the entire surface has a matte finish. Smaller areas can be sanded by hand. Vacuum the floor, clean with water, and dry. Once the floor is completely clean and dry, you can begin finishing. Finishing The FloorClean the roller in water so that it does not shed Dry it. Shake the finish container and pour it into the tray. Apply the finish along the edges with a small brush. Now apply the finish with the roller in crosswise strokes. Do not press the roller, let it work with its own weight. Once you have finished 1 1/2 - 2 metres, even out the finish with lengthways strokes. Continue in this manner until the entire floor is finished. 1 litre of finish is enough for 8 - 10 m2. If you want an extra hardwearing surface, finish the floor a second time. |
When can I furnish? The day after the final layer of finish is applied, you can move the furniture back in. Wait at least a week before laying mats and rugs.
