How to Sand a Wooden Floor - Page 3Sand normal wooden floors along the grain of the wood. Work from left to right, completing the whole floor with each grit belt to ensure a really smooth finish. Place slight resistance on the machine to achieve the optimum sand. If you feel unsure about your technique, practise first with the finest grit paper. This is easier to work with and any damage you may cause by making mistakes on your first attempts will not be serious. You will soon get a feeling for how the machine feels and works. Then it's time to start sanding for real. After a first rough sanding, most of the old finish should be removed. The subsequent sandings are performed to give the floor a perfectly smooth surface. |
Note that for really uneven floors you have to sand in a sequence of different directions. First sand using grit 24, second sand use grit 40, third sanding use grit 80, forth sand use grit 100 and finally sand using grit 120 following the grain of the wood. (Diagonal sanding should only be done at a maximum angle of 7 degrees from the grain) |
